Rosanervig Hygrophila

Hygrophila polysperma

PlantaeTracheophytaMagnoliopsidaAcanthaceae

Variety of Hygrophila Polysperma · rosanervig

📍 Cultivar (India origin)

Ask Finn

A stunning variegated cultivar of H. polysperma with white to pink venation against a light green or pinkish leaf. The coloration intensifies under bright light. Despite its exotic appearance it is just as easy as the parent species and grows quickly. Invasive in outdoor ponds in some US states.

Common Diseases

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, loss of variegation intensity

Treatment

Increase fertilizer dosing, ensure adequate lighting, and consider adding macronutrient supplements (nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus) and trace elements

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating on leaves, reduced light penetration, plant surface covered in film

Treatment

Reduce lighting duration to 8-10 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating shrimp or fish, and manually remove affected leaves

Root Rot

Symptoms

Mushy stems, blackened base, foul odor from substrate, plant collapse

Treatment

Improve water circulation, reduce organic waste buildup, perform partial water changes, and trim affected stems; replant healthy cuttings in fresh substrate

Melting

Symptoms

Rapid leaf dissolution, transparent or translucent leaves, plant deterioration after planting

Treatment

Maintain stable water parameters (pH 5.5-8.0), ensure adequate lighting and CO2, gradually acclimate plant to new conditions, and be patient as new growth emerges
