Hygrophila difformis

PlantaeTracheophytaMagnoliopsidaLamialesAcanthaceae

Common Diseases

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing or pale leaves, stunted growth, leaf holes or necrosis, particularly in older leaves

Treatment

Dose all-in-one fertilizer weekly; add root tabs if substrate lacks nutrients; ensure adequate lighting to support nutrient uptake

Algae Overgrowth (Green Spot, Black Beard)

Symptoms

Visible algae coating on leaves and stems, reduced photosynthesis, plant decline

Treatment

Increase water changes, reduce photoperiod to 8-10 hours, boost CO2 if possible, add algae-eating fish (Otocinclus, Siamese Algae Eater), manually remove affected leaves

Root Rot (Substrate-Related)

Symptoms

Mushy, blackened stems near substrate, foul odor, plant collapse despite adequate lighting

Treatment

Improve substrate drainage; increase water circulation; remove affected stems and replant healthy cuttings; ensure substrate is not compacted or anaerobic

Melting (Emersion Shock)

Symptoms

Rapid leaf dissolution, transparent or translucent leaves, stem softening after introduction to aquarium

Treatment

Trim affected leaves; maintain stable water parameters; ensure adequate light and nutrients; allow 2-4 weeks for acclimation and new growth
