Plantae›Bryophyta›Bryopsida›Hypnales›Hypnaceae
📍 Southeast Asia
Miniature version of Christmas Moss with denser, more compact triangular fronds. Creates tighter texture on hardscape. Very popular for scapes.
Tank Mates
Beneficial algae grazers that won't damage moss; help maintain plant health
Small, peaceful invertebrates that graze on biofilm without harming delicate moss fronds
Gentle algae eaters that respect plants and create minimal disturbance
Tiny, peaceful fish that won't uproot or damage moss; excellent for planted tanks
Excellent companion plant with similar low-light requirements and slow growth rate
Compatible hardscape-attached plant with identical care needs and aesthetic appeal
Common Diseases
Algae Overgrowth
Green, brown, or black algae coating moss fronds; reduced light penetration; moss appears smothered
Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating shrimp or fish, manually remove excess algae with soft brush
Nutrient Deficiency
Pale or yellowing fronds; stunted growth; loss of vibrant green coloration
Dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer weekly; ensure adequate fish bioload; consider macronutrient supplements if heavily planted
Melting
Fronds become translucent, mushy, or dissolve; brown discoloration spreading through plant
Improve water quality with frequent partial changes; ensure adequate water circulation; reduce nutrient overload; trim affected portions
Bacterial Decay
Foul odor from moss; blackened or rotting fronds; slimy coating on plant tissue
Remove affected portions immediately; increase water circulation and aeration; perform 30-50% water change; avoid overfeeding fish
