Hygrophila Corymbosa Compact
Hygrophila corymbosa
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Acanthaceae
Variety of Hygrophila Corymbosa · compact
📍 Captive-bred cultivar (Southeast Asia origin)
A cultivar of the Temple Plant with shorter internodal spacing, producing a denser, bushier plant than the standard species. Large, bright green leaves are held close to the stem, giving it a robust, architectural look in the midground or background. One of the easiest stem plants to grow — thrives in low-tech tanks and is very forgiving of neglect. A great beginner plant that still looks impressive in mature scapes.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage plant tissue and help maintain tank cleanliness
Small, non-destructive shrimp that thrive in planted tanks and add visual interest
Peaceful schooling fish that complement planted layouts without uprooting or damaging stems
Algae-eating fish that stay small and won't disturb rooted plants
Excellent companion plant with similar care requirements and complementary growth form
Low-maintenance rhizome plant that pairs well with stem plants in mixed layouts
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, or holes in older leaves
Increase fertilizer dosing (macro and micronutrients), perform regular water changes, and consider adding CO2 if light is high
Algae Overgrowth
Green, brown, or black algae coating plant surfaces and reducing photosynthesis
Reduce light duration to 6–8 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fish or shrimp, and maintain nutrient balance
Root Rot
Mushy stems, foul odor, leaf loss, and decay at the base of the plant
Improve substrate drainage, reduce overfeeding of fish, increase water circulation, and trim affected stems; replant healthy cuttings
Melting
Rapid leaf dissolution and stem deterioration after planting or water parameter changes
Maintain stable water parameters (pH 6.0–8.0, temp 20–29°C), acclimate plants slowly, and ensure adequate lighting and nutrients
