Bucephalandra Wavy Green
Bucephalandra sp. 'Wavy Green'
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Araceae
Variety of Bucephalandra · wavy green
📍 Borneo
Wavy Green is one of the more distinctive Bucephalandra varieties, with small to medium leaves that have notably undulated, wavy margins. The bright green foliage with subtle white iridescent spotting makes it a prized accent plant attached to hardscape. Extremely hardy and forgiving once established.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage delicate foliage and benefit from the same low-light conditions
Gentle invertebrates that graze algae on plant surfaces without harming leaves; thrive in same water parameters
Excellent companion plant with similar care requirements, growth rate, and hardscape attachment style
Compatible low-light plant that creates natural-looking aquascapes alongside Bucephalandra varieties
Peaceful, small fish that won't uproot or damage attached plants; prefers similar warm water temperatures
Tiny, non-destructive schooling fish that add color without disturbing hardscape-attached plants
Common Diseases
Rhizome Rot
Soft, blackened tissue on rhizome; mushy appearance; plant fails to attach or deteriorates rapidly
Improve water circulation and reduce organic buildup. Remove affected portions with sterile tools. Ensure rhizome is not buried in substrate. Increase water changes and avoid stagnant conditions.
Algae Overgrowth (Black Beard/Thread Algae)
Dark filamentous or brush-like algae coating leaf surfaces; reduced light penetration to plant
Manually remove algae with soft brush or by trimming affected leaves. Reduce photoperiod to 6-8 hours daily. Introduce algae-eating shrimp or fish. Improve water flow around plant.
Nutrient Deficiency
Slow growth, pale or yellowing new leaves, stunted development despite adequate light
Dose all-in-one liquid fertilizer (e.g., Thrive, Flourish) 2-3 times weekly at recommended rates. Ensure adequate bioload from fish waste. Test water and adjust macronutrient balance if needed.
Melting (Tissue Degradation)
Leaves become translucent, mushy, or dissolve; plant appears to shrink
Usually temporary during acclimation. Maintain stable water parameters (pH 6.0-7.5, temp 22-28°C). Ensure gentle water flow. Remove dead tissue. Plant typically recovers within 2-4 weeks.
