Care Guide

Diet

Gold Mystery Snails are primarily algae grazers and detritus feeders, consuming biofilm and decaying plant matter throughout the day. Supplement their diet 2-3 times weekly with blanched vegetables such as zucchini, spinach, or cucumber, and calcium-rich foods like cuttlebone or algae wafers to support shell health. They will also consume leftover fish food and dead plant material, making them excellent cleanup crew members.

Behavior

These snails are nocturnal and most active during evening and night hours, though they may venture out during overcast days. They are peaceful, solitary creatures that spend their time slowly grazing across surfaces and substrate. Gold Mystery Snails are known for their curious, personable nature and will often interact with their environment, making them engaging to observe despite their slow movement.

Breeding

Breeding Gold Mystery Snails in captivity is straightforward and populations are easy to control since they lay eggs above the waterline in clusters. Females will deposit tan or pink egg clutches on tank glass, decorations, or plants above the water surface; these hatch in 2-4 weeks depending on temperature and humidity. Remove egg clutches if you wish to prevent population growth, as they reproduce readily in suitable conditions.
