📍 South America

Ask Finn

Tall, slender stem plant with star-shaped leaf whorls. Pale green with a unique structural form. Requires very soft water and CO2.

Common Diseases

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, leaf melting or deterioration

Treatment

Increase fertilizer dosing frequency; use comprehensive all-in-one fertilizers or separate macro/micronutrient solutions. Test water parameters and adjust based on results.

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating stems and leaves, reduced light penetration, plant appears smothered

Treatment

Reduce lighting duration to 8-10 hours daily, increase water changes, introduce algae-eating shrimp (Amano or Red Cherry), and maintain stable CO2 levels

Melting/Decay

Symptoms

Leaves becoming translucent, stems rotting, plant tissue dissolving, foul odor from substrate

Treatment

Improve water quality with frequent partial water changes; ensure adequate CO2 injection and fertilization; check for decaying plant matter and remove promptly

Poor Growth/Stagnation

Symptoms

No visible growth over weeks, leaves remaining small, plant appearing dormant despite good conditions

Treatment

Verify CO2 levels are adequate (30-40 ppm); increase light intensity; boost fertilizer dosing; ensure water parameters are stable with pH 5.5-7.0 and GH below 6
