Cryptocoryne Pink Panther
Cryptocoryne wendtii Pink Panther
📍 Southeast Asia
Cryptocoryne wendtii Pink Panther is a stunning mid-sized crypt featuring deep pink to reddish undersides on its leaves with darker green upper surfaces, creating striking two-tone coloration. This variety grows moderately and develops a compact rosette form, making it an excellent choice for mid-ground placement in planted tanks. It is hardy and adaptable, thriving in a wide range of water conditions with minimal special care.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae eater; will not uproot or damage plant tissue
Small, non-destructive; adds visual interest without harming plants
Gentle algae grazer; does not disturb substrate or plant roots
Peaceful schooling fish; small size minimizes plant disturbance
Calm temperament; may occasionally nibble plants but generally plant-safe
Pairs well visually; similar care requirements and growth rate
Common Diseases
Crypt Melt
Leaves become translucent, mushy, and dissolve; plant appears to be dying back completely
Often occurs during transition to new water conditions; maintain stable parameters, ensure good water circulation, reduce light temporarily, and be patient—plant typically regrows from rhizome within weeks
Iron Deficiency
New leaves emerge pale yellow or whitish while veins remain darker; older leaves unaffected
Dose with liquid iron fertilizer (chelated iron) 1-2x weekly; ensure adequate lighting and CO2 to support nutrient uptake
Algae on Leaves
Green spot algae, black beard algae, or brown diatoms coat leaf surfaces; plant appears dull and covered
Increase water changes, reduce lighting duration, add algae-eating shrimp (Amano or Red Cherry), manually remove affected leaves, and ensure adequate nutrient balance
Rhizome Rot
Rhizome becomes soft, mushy, or blackened; foul smell; leaves detach easily from base
Improve water circulation and reduce organic waste buildup; remove affected portions of rhizome with clean tools; ensure substrate is not compacted; consider partial water change and increased aeration
