Soft, blackened rhizome; mushy texture; foul odor; leaf loss

Treatment

Remove affected plant, trim rotted portions with sterile tools, improve water circulation and reduce organic buildup in substrate

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating leaves; reduced light penetration; plant appears smothered

Treatment

Increase water changes, reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, add algae-eating fish like Otocinclus, manually remove algae with soft brush
